Part of the SoilDAO Protocol
A living map of the earth beneath us. Satellite imagery, sensor data, and community science — making soil health visible, verifiable, and valuable.
The Foundation
Soil is the most undervalued asset on the planet. It feeds us, filters our water, stores more carbon than the atmosphere, and we're losing it faster than we can measure.
Nearly all food production depends on healthy soil. Degrade the soil, degrade the food supply.
Soil holds more carbon than the atmosphere and all plant life combined. It's the largest terrestrial carbon sink.
Erosion, industrial farming, and development strip away topsoil that took centuries to form.
The Research
In 2013, Kubiszewski, Costanza, Dorji, Thoennes & Tshering proved that Bhutan's ecosystem services are worth $15.5 billion per year — more than four times the country's GDP. Forests alone account for $14.5 billion. The soil beneath stores 0.4 gigatonnes of carbon. The science is there. The data is there. What's missing is the infrastructure to make it visible, verifiable, and actionable.
Bhutan's forests, watersheds, and soil provide services worth four times the national GDP — most of it flowing to neighboring countries for free.
The 2023 National Forest Inventory confirmed Bhutan's forests and soil hold 645 million tonnes of carbon — a global asset that has never been properly valued on any ledger.
While the world deforests, Bhutan constitutionally mandates 60% forest cover and remains the only carbon-negative country on Earth.
SoilDAO is committed to turning this research into reality — building the infrastructure to map, measure, and prove the value of living ecosystems, and to power a regenerative economy where the land that sustains us is finally recognized as the most valuable asset we have.
The Process
Three layers of intelligence, one living map.
Sentinel-2 satellites capture vegetation health. NASA tracks soil moisture. USDA maps cropland. We layer it all onto one globe.
Upload soil lab results — organic carbon, pH, nitrogen, microbial biomass. Your ground truth pins to the map with full history.
Draw property boundaries, register with SoilDAO, and generate verifiable soil health records. Your land, your data, your proof.
The Engine
Click any point on the map and SoilScope calculates the real economic value of that hectare's ecosystem services — not from a spreadsheet, but from live satellite data, soil measurements, and vegetation health.
Every hectare of forest filters water, stores carbon, supports biodiversity, and regulates climate. SoilScope calculates the dollar value of these services using the Costanza methodology — upgraded with real satellite data.
Land cover type sets the base value. Sentinel-2 vegetation health adjusts it up or down. SoilGrids soil carbon adds a richness multiplier. Elevation accounts for regeneration speed. One number. Four sources of truth.
A healthy forest hectare in Bhutan produces over $5,000/year in ecosystem services. A degraded field might produce $800. SoilScope makes this visible — and SoilDAO makes it verifiable, tradeable, and bankable.
The Vision
SoilScope feeds the Proof of Soil Oracle — a decentralized data layer that connects satellite observations, lab results, and on-chain records. Soil health becomes a measurable, tradeable, trustable asset class. Nature on the ledger.
Join the Movement
Every reading you share adds a voice to the living record of our planet. Your backyard, your farm, your land — it all matters. Together we're building something no one has built before: a global soil intelligence layer, owned by the people who care about the earth.
